With the desire of overcoming all odds, you need to have the best modem settings for gaming. Ideally, you’d want something that would get rid of those annoying monthly cable modem rental fees, and that would give you a good number for its downloading and uploading speed. Check out what we have prepared for you!
This is bang for your buck cable modem that has gracefully replaced my previous Motorola modem. Needless to say, my ancient modem was only able to crank up 20mbps.
You’re basically getting your money’s worth – or maybe even more than that.
With that being said, the price tag isn’t as heavy as you think it is. As a matter of fact, it’s quite cheap for a cable modem. But it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t pack a punch.
The installation process was quite convenient. After it has been activated, the upgrade was prominent. My experience with it was at around 115 Megs down for the download speed, which was great considering the previous modem sucked. And yes, it’s both for hand-wired and wireless.
Going deeper on how I was able to manage the setup – honestly, even a grade-schooler can do it for you. For the first procedure, you have to get rid of the current cable modem. After you’ve removed your prehistoric model, replace it with this new-age technology.
Next, you either hard-wire this puppy to your PC (both laptop and desktop works). Then you turn on the modem – a word of advice, make sure that it has been linked with the coaxial cable as well.
Finally, you can go to the activation page. The mini manual goes with it. You’ll be able to check out a number of internet providers and their links. You’ll only have to open the browser next, and simply follow the given prompts.
As what I’ve mentioned earlier, this gets rid of the monthly cable modem rental fees, which is a HUGE plus for me. This can carry up to a whopping 680Mbps download and upload speed.
Overall, if you’re into streaming HD videos, want a faster download experience, and into high-speed online gaming, then you’ve already found your match.
Just a few minutes ago, I dissed my old Motorola cable modem. But it isn’t the case for ALL of the models – as you can see, I bought mine years ago.
Now, this is a different thing.
Anyhow, there’s no need to explain who Motorola is. There’s a big chance you’ve owned Motorola products in the past. Let’s talk about one of its recent releases.
This baby has been built with all the necessary features to make one great cable modem. For starters, this has been made with a built-in AC1900 Dual Band Wi-Fi. Not only will you be enjoying this for a ride, but you’ll also be getting a power boost as well.
Let’s be precise with the numbers here – it’s a four 10/100/1000 Gigabit (GigE) Ethernet ports, and firewall. This offers an incredible speed up to 686 Mbps. Comparing it to NETGEAR CM500, it’s superior by a difference of 6 – who’s the ancient one now?
This baby is great as it’s known to be sixteen times BETTER in terms of speed than the DOCSIS 2.0. The saying that goes “Slow if fast” doesn’t apply to Motorola 16x4 at all.
When it comes to certification, this has everything down. Heck, it’s even been recognized by Comcast XFINITY for all residential speeds. Of course, it’s not the only thing that it has on its sleeves, it comes with Extreme 250. It has been certified by Time Warner Cable. This includes for all speeds – and yes, it includes 300 Mbps as well.
It’d be the best thing to do to end this thing with the cheapest product on the list – how low can you go?
Apparently, we can go low as a couple of bucks without having to compensate its quality and performance.
Although it isn’t on the same level with the other two on the list, this is still an above average product. You’ll be enjoying a 343 Mbps cable modem, which gives you a great experience for getting a fast internet connection over cable.
Like I said, no one wants to deal with modem rental charges, right? Just like with NETGEAR CM500 it gets rid of any fees – generally at around $8-$10 every month. This is coming from Comcast XFINITY, and the rest of the crew. This includes Time Warner Cable as well.
From the name alone, we can get that it’s at 8x4, which makes the size ideal. And it also has 8 downstream channels. This is beyond average when it comes to download speed as well – especially when compared to 4x4 modems.
You’re given various options where you can connect and use this modem. Of course, it works perfectly fine with Windows and Macintosh. Generally, it’s okay with the rest of the Ethernet-capable computers.
In addition, it doesn’t matter if your routers are wired or not as it works on both. Another thing to take note of is its Full-Band Capture Digital Tuner that allows a faster and reliable internet.
To end it all, since the company is confident with their product, you’ll be getting a two year warranty from Zoom.
We know why you’re here – you want an upgrade. And while there are a lot of factors that may affect your choice for an upgrade, the design is surely one of them.
Seriously, no one doesn’t want to spend money on a cable modem that looks like it was made in the 90’s (I’m trying to let you picture a bulky, unwieldy design.)
Don’t worry though, it’s not something that I would want to put on this page. Instead, the team and I separated the best from the rest, and when it comes to creating great designs with the use of smart technologies, NetGear is at the top of our list.
We’ve reviewed several products from NetGear, and it has never failed to impress us. And we know that NETGEAR CM700 isn’t any different. Going back to its appearance, I like how they were able to pull off a pretty aggressive look while STILL succeeding in making it look subtle.
The lings are sharply angled, which is always appreciated. And you can’t go wrong with its brightly painted green lights for its LED.
Also, the designers clearly knew how to rock a party with its triangular vent holes, it’s aesthetically pleasing in a lot of levels. It’s always appreciated when a company makes an eye-candy out of their creations.
Let’s move forward with its set-up, and if there’s anything that I don’t want, I don’t want anything that’s complicated. And from what I’ve encountered with almost ALL of the modems I’ve tried, they all have this complex procedure that would confuse beginners.
However, NETGEAR CM700 follows a simplified way of doing things. What I’m trying to say is that it holds no concerns for a lot of users (including myself.)
All you have to do is get it up running by connecting the power. After that, you just have to simply plug in your Ethernet and cable. That’s about it, really. Oh, don’t forget to push the power button too!
Once you have everything done, the modem does ALL the work for you. And this has been made possible due to its dynamic handshake.
First thing that happens when it’s connected to the ISP, the two devices will have to choose a method on how they’ll communicate.
For the most part, it’s the CM700 that tests out everything, it does a good job at selecting the best method for the best results.
It means, the process doesn’t need you to do anything. It’s a hand off operation that any gamer would appreciate.
Let’s take a quick walk on memory lane, and remember about the modems that have helped us get this far. For ARRIS, their big break was the popular the SB6121 and SB6141. Now, if you thought those two were legit, you’re in for a ride with their ARRIS SURFboard SB6183.
The result of their build-up from the two OGs, they makers were able to produce something even better. I’m talking about upgrading your personal media experience, and dealing with a better broadband speed.
We can see that they have exerted every effort possible to make this thing a huge hit – well, an even better model that is. It carries the power of DOCSIS 3.0 technology that makes it super cool.
It has the capacity to take on 16 downstream channels. That’s not all it can do, this can have up to 4 upstream channels as well. This gives you the service of taking on advanced multimedia service.
The numbers are usually up to an incredible 686 Mbps for download. Its upload speed can range up to 131 Mbps. But this mostly depends on your cable internet service provider.
I did a bit a test run on ARRIS SURFboard SB6183, and I’ve noticed that video streaming in HD went particularly well. As a matter of fact, I’d recommend it for those who are into movies.
The experience with other tasks (especially gaming) were smooth. The video conference calls were spot on, and it gives off an overall realistic feeling.
You can also rest easy as it has a 2-year warranty to back you up as well. You know how it goes, the longer the warranty, the more confident the company is.
Here’s a fun fact, SURFboard made its appearance long ago in 1997 – yes, when most us were still kids. From then, they were able to give off a rather astonishing backtrack record that led them to their successful years in the industry. And the clock’s still clicking!
One of the reasons why it’s popular is because clients are able to save money on their monthly rental fees. Being able to control your home network – including financial matters – is a huge plus.
Kicking it off with ARRIS SURFboard SB6141, it has a sense of pride into it. You see, you’re going to love how open it is when it comes to flexibility. It can be partnered with 9/10 of the BIGGEST cable internet providers in the U.S. If that doesn’t shock you, you need to reread that line again.
Moving forward to what it can offer, aside from its wide range of compatibility factor, this also means it saves you the hassle in the future.
You see, even if you DO change service providers, you can still use this baby up. Honestly, if I was given only three words to describe this thing, it would be compatibility, performance, and design. Furthermore, you’re going to like how this comes in at 8 x 4 channel bonding. Okay, this might not be as impressive as ARRIS SURFboard SB6183, but it’s capable of taking on 4 upstream data channels (for upload).
Putting the numbers down, you’re going to have a download speed that can go up to a decent 343 Mbps, and an upload speed of 131 Mbps. In my opinion, it already works for me.
At first glance, I could see right away that the housing was neatly made. As a matter of fact, I’d give it an additional point as it doesn’t give off that flimsy feel.
It’s been built with rigid plastic that’s able to take on any challenge. And if you think that you’re clumsy, then its scratch-resistant feature surely makes up for the falls.
I’ve mentioned a lot of things that SB6141 is, but there’s something that it doesn’t have – a power button. And you’re going to be surprised to know that it doesn’t have a reset button as well.
So this gives you no choice but to manually plug and unplug it if you plan on restarting. But that’s the only real downside I can see to it. Its performance is on a different level, and I really like how the price is directed to the general market.
